Paternity

It is important to note that a paternity action can be filed even if you know the other parent is the biological parent.

The main difference between a paternity case and an allocation of parental responsibilities case is that in a paternity case child support can be retroactive to the date of birth.

In an allocation of parental responsibilities case child support can only be retroactive to the date of service on the other parent.

Once a paternity determination is made an order of the court, a paternity case involves all of the same issues regarding the child as an allocation of parental responsibilities case.
